well, its vacation time, boys and girls, you know what that means... MOVIE TIME!! yes, yes, and this time 'round, it was the never imitated, therefore never duplicated sin city, which is a movie that lives up to it's name. here goes;

Nighttime, and you can see the city lights glimmering off the horizion as the lonley, slim, attractive lone female walk to the edge of the balcony. Followed momentarely by the hartbreaker gentelman who spares the parting words of a smooth lover as he pulls his arm over her into a tight embrace, allowing the lovers to share a passionate kiss upon that windy building top. A moment later he pulles a gun out and shoots her in the back.
That's the way that just about the entire movie of "sin city" goes. Based on the underground comic pheneminon by Frank Miller, Sin City follows the life changing stories of three men. One, a street-smart badass, one a prostitution freedom fighter, and one, just an honest cop trying to do the right thing. From the first scene, you notice right off that there is something missing. That something is color, but it is not without. The entire movie is comprised with certain color 'spots' that point out certain things that enhance the composition of the overall image. Its an interesting concept, but very subtle-- guaranteed to wear your eyes out at the end of it. Compositionally, the cinematography is amaizing. just about every shot is thought out carefully to balance light and color. And for about a two and a half hour movie, thats pretty impressive! The music is nothing TOO too special. It's dark and gloomy, which fits with the movie, but it just dosen't seem to ambitious. There is no real striving for standing out.
One thing that will throw out a major part of the audiance is the gore level. For some people, its no problom, but for the faint of heart it may test ye courage. (which may be a result of being guest-directed by quention terrinteno) This is accompyneded by a dark and depressing storyine that, at times, seems just to drag on. It's also hard to feel the drama sometimes, too. there are many scenes where the main character (at the time) is in mortal danger, and then is saved at the last minute. After about four or five times of this, it sort of looses it's edge.
Overall, its a stimulating experience for the mind and eye, and if you dont mind seeing a little kill bill-esq 'squirting' voilence, then this may be the movie you've been saving that saturday evening to devote to!
