Update!

Sat Oct 28, 2006, 5:37 PM
Okay, so it's been a while since I updated my deviantspace, so i thought I'd take some time to tell everyone whats up. First off, I wanna thank Nicole, AKA *Gonzosmonkey, for all her comments, just reminding me that someone IS still awesome out there! THANK YOU NICOLE, I HEART YOU!!! In addition, I'd like to thank anyone reading this, because it means you are still paying attention to me, even after my long absence! Thanks, guys!!

Okay, so you wanna know where I've been lately. Well, mostly I've been here. No, not on deviantart, i mean I've been RIGHT HERE, in front of my computer, in my room, in our dorm. But just because I've been living in the same 10 square feet for the past 2 1/2 months, doesn't mean i've been lazy... I've been working my ASS off! Ironically, most of it hasn't been on artwork at all, but research and essay-type assignments. Dig this, I've got 2 (2 page) essays, 300 pages of reading, and a mandatory film to watch due each week. Which isn't terrible, now that I put it in text in front of me, but in addition to my regular weekly artwork, plus about 5 sketches per week, that adds up a lot. And it's hard, man, but so far I've been doing pretty good (although I'm always on my toes). On the bright side, my teachers this year kick SO much ass! For the most part, I love the instructors i have this semester. Okay, for example, there's Gan Xu, my Japanese art history teacher. Each year, he teaches one semester at MECA, and then for the second he travels out to China, to teach a calligraphy class. That’s awesome because not only do we lean about Japanese history, but we also get bonus stories about Chinese culture, and how things work out there! And then there's my Native American teacher, Candice Caine. This lady is awesome, because she's always making us look at both sides of the fence, questioning every answer we give, making us really think of if the answer we're giving is correct, or just from the textbook (which I’ve found is often wrong- or if not wrong, than morally inconsistent). Although I think I'm really being stretched to my limits in terms of work, i feel like i can honestly say that the education I'm getting this semester is really invaluable.

Well, outside of school, things have stayed consistent with last year. I'm still having trouble melding with the city life, and the increasing chill in the air isn't helping too much. In addition, I'm battling a slight case of depression, mostly female-induced. No, you can't have any details. Besides, video games are way better friends than girls anyway. (FINAL FANTASY XII ANYONE!!??! chris is psyched!) However, the fall colors are a really big help. I've discovered a little nook near the coastline about 2 miles from the dorm that is BEAUTIFUL! It's right on the water, surrounded by trees, and it's a great place to escape to whenever i need to get away for a little while. Speaking of which, my roommate, James, is awesome. Way better situation for me than my previous two roommates. Despite um.... his choice of um.... "music", he's an awesome kid who just so happens to be a major comic book geek, so we get along pretty well. Plus, he's teaching me how to cook, which is a HUGE plus. I was getting pretty sick of living off ramen and tap water alone. Of course, I'm not the cleanest kid in the world, so I'm having to adjust to the whole new big space with a more conscious effort to keep the place a little more tidy than my last shoebox, which is a little bit of a challenge.

Okay, before I close up this update, I'd like to say, that I have an announcement! After careful consideration, I have decided to come to the conclusion of a choice of major. And that, I believe, is going to be Sculpture!! I've played around with so many different styles of art, and i feel like the three sculpture teachers I've had so far have really opened my eyes to a whole new world of depth, one that I hardly knew existed before. I believe I'm going to go towards it a full-throttle, and trust my instincts to become a more well-rounded artist.
